Derick Baker

Derick Baker

My name is Derick Baker, and I am a master’s student in counselling. I am interested in working with individuals across a range of ages, identities, and life experiences, with a particular focus on relationship dynamics, identity development, emotional regulation, social isolation, and interpersonal harm.

My clinical interests include the impacts of trauma and relational wounds and supporting both individuals who have caused harm and those who have experienced harm.

I am especially interested in understanding how digital health, online cultures, social influences, and experiences of disconnection can shape beliefs, behavior, and relationships. I approach this work through a trauma-informed, relational, and non-judgmental lens that emphasizes curiosity, accountability, and the possibility for change.

My approach to counselling is grounded in attachment, developmental, and behavioral frameworks, with an emphasis on building safety, insight, accountability, and meaningful change. I also have an interest in process and substance addictions and how they intersect with emotional regulation, coping, and relational difficulties.

I see counselling as a space where people can better understand themselves, recognize their strengths and patterns, and develop the insight and skills needed to create healthier relationships with themselves and others. While each person is an individual, none of us exists in isolation, and I believe meaningful change happens both within people and through connection with others.
